Walking the old neighborhoods of Seoul gives one a keen sense of community and history. While the noise and the sights along with the food smells make for an almost claustrophobic experience I had a nostalgic sense of belonging. I loved being there…popping into shops and restaurants just to further connect with the friendly merchants.
Comparing this curvy mind boggling structure to the precise colorful carved roof lines of the temples and shrines found just blocks away invites comparisons of old versus new—minimalist versus ornate—and yet there seems to be in both a reflection on nature and mind.
I found the contrast between the kinetic energy in the streets of Seoul and the quiet peace of these lovely park grounds to be stark. An enigma found frequently in the East. Buffered from the noise of traffic and rush of people on the streets, I was able to refresh my mind and rest my eyes while enveloped in the calm for a while.
